The day of Arafah is also known as the Day of Waqf (Day of standing), which reflects the deep devotion of pilgrims who seek Allah’s mercy on that day. Arafah is the most significant day of hajj, which is the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, when pilgrims gather on the plains of Arafah, standing in supplication and humility before Allah.
The Prophet (ﷺ), highlighting the importance of Arafah, said: “Hajj is Arafah” (Abu Dawud)
The day of Arafah is expected to fall on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 (subject to moon sighting)
This day marks the completion of Islam as reported in the Quran.
Allah revealed:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion…” (Qur’an 5:3)
As narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA), this verse was revealed on Arafah, on a Friday (Bukhari).
In the Holy Quran, Allah said:
“By the sky containing great stars,
And by the Promised Day,
And [by] the witness and what is witnessed.” (85:1–3)
The Prophet ﷺ explained that the witnessed Day is the Day of Arafah and the witnessing Day is Friday. (Tirmidhi)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah” (Muslim)
Both the pilgrims and non-pilgrims are included in this mercy.
Dua with full sincerity and conviction is considered best on this day.
Key Du‘ā’:
Laa ilaaha illallah wahdahu laa shareeka lah…
This is a day to:
Ask for forgiveness, Jannah, protection from Hellfire.
Make du‘ā’ for family, friends, and the Ummah.
Reflect, repent, and reconnect with Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ spent hours in continuous du‘ā’ during his Farewell Hajj, showing deep humility despite his high status.
The following types of Adhkar are best done at Arfah.
Tahleel: Laa ilaaha illallah
Takbeer: Allahu Akbar
Tahmeed: Alhamdulillah
Tasbeeh: SubhanAllah
Takbeer-e-Tashreeq (after prayers)
Pilgrims generally don’t fast on this day to maintain the strength of worship. However, those not at hajj will gain immense rewards for fasting on this day.
For those not performing Hajj:
“It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year” (Muslim)
One should seek forgiveness with sincerity on this Day. No matter how great the sins are, they can be forgiven, so it is worse to think that there is no forgiveness of sins.
“Sadaqah extinguishes sin like water extinguishes fire” (Tirmidhi)
Charity is the key to multiplying rewards.
The Day of Arafah is a chance for renewal:
As scholars said:
“This is the best day of the year for du‘ā’.”
Don’t let this day pass like any other.
Fast. Make du‘ā’. Give. Seek forgiveness.
Because this one day can change your entire year—and your hereafter.
